Reading GEX on a real day

On October 30, 2026, SPY's total dealer gamma on Tradytics was -$335.55M: negative, so dealers were positioned to trade with the move rather than against it. The biggest strike was $758 at -$364.81M, which was also the put wall; the call wall was $810 and the gamma flip $738.08. SPY closed at $757.12, just under that put wall.

QQQ's total gamma the same day was positive, $180.48M, meaning dealers trade against the move. QQQ still fell 3.16%, about twice SPY's 1.59%. That's the honest summary of GEX: it describes how dealer hedging may push a move, not which way the market goes. A GEX tool is worth paying for when it shows you these levels clearly, not when it promises direction. Our guides explain the call wall and put wall and positive vs negative gamma.

Barchart: delayed gamma for the price of a screener

Barchart's per-stock gamma exposure pages use delayed intraday data. Premier is $29.95 a month or $239.95 a year with a 30-day free trial. More in Tradytics vs Barchart.

Cheddar Flow (Professional), BlackBoxStocks (Options Plus) and InsiderFinance also include gamma exposure in their flow plans, as the table shows.

Is GEX worth paying for?

GEX is an estimate. It's built from open interest by strike, and open interest doesn't say who is long and who is short, so every tool assumes how dealers are positioned. Expect walls and flip levels to differ between tools, and treat them as zones where hedging may speed up or slow down a move. If you trade SPX or futures intraday, a dedicated tool with fast updates earns its price. If you want gamma levels as one input next to flow and dark pools, a tool that bundles them costs less. Read how GEX is calculated and does gamma exposure help you trade? before paying for any of them.

Common questions

Is there a free GEX tool?

Yes, with limits. MenthorQ's free plan has a delayed preview of its gamma models, SpotGamma has a free SPX gamma exposure tool, and Tradytics Free shows dealer gamma for any ticker on yesterday's session.

What's the best GEX tool for futures?

MenthorQ, which puts gamma levels for futures options such as ES and NQ inside the charting platforms futures traders already use.

What is the difference between GEX and DEX?

GEX estimates how much dealers' hedging changes as price moves; DEX (delta exposure) estimates how much stock dealers hold against their options right now. Quant Data and BlackBoxStocks show both. Start with what gamma exposure is.

Which GEX tools have an API?

Unusual Whales (API from $99 a month, with MCP), BullFlow (Data API plan, $99 a month billed yearly, with MCP) and Quant Data (API with MCP; price not shown). SpotGamma's data licenses are for institutional desks.
