Unusual Whales vs Cheddar Flow: which is better?

By Faizan Ahmad. Updated .

For most traders, Unusual Whales is the better value: real-time options flow starts at $50 a month (as of October 2026), there is a free tier, and one terminal adds GEX, dark pool prints, Congress trades, an AI analyst and phone apps, with an API sold separately. Cheddar Flow is the better pick if you want a cleaner, flow-first screen and a free 7-day trial before you pay; its Standard plan is $85 a month, and dark pool and GEX need Pro at $99 a month or $75 a month billed yearly. Neither gives refunds, so test before you commit.

Where Unusual Whales wins

Where Cheddar Flow wins

Is either one's dark pool data really real time?

Both say yes, and both mean how fast a report reaches you: FINRA allows 10 seconds after execution, and the biggest prints are often reported late, hours after the trade at an earlier price. Judge dark pool tools on how they build levels from many sessions of prints, not on seconds; our guide on whether dark pool data is real time walks through the reporting rules.

Which should you pick?

Either way, remember what flow can't do. No tool knows for sure whether a print was a new bet, a hedge, a spread leg or a closing trade, so treat alerts as context. If price is the deciding factor, our side-by-side price table covers every major flow tool, and the Unusual Whales alternatives and Cheddar Flow alternatives pages go wider.

A third option: Tradytics

Tradytics is one web app with live options flow, dark pool prints, dealer gamma, research on every US stock and ETF, a 120-signal scanner, charts, an options strategy builder, portfolio tools and an AI analyst. Live is $39 a month or $299 a year, with OPRA options flow live to the second and 20 AI questions a day. Pro is $69 a month or $499 a year and adds unlimited AI questions, AI trade ideas as they open, and an API (50,000 calls a day) with an MCP server. The Free plan shows every page and tool on yesterday's session, with no card.

The AI analyst does the reading for you: it decides what data it needs, pulls the flow, dark pool and gamma itself, and says what a trade likely is. Asked about NVDA's flow on the Free plan, it flagged that the biggest print, $114M in Nov 20 $240 puts, was a mid-price spread, not a clean bet.

The AI analyst builds a flow card and a largest-trades table, then reads them for you.

Where it falls short of these two: Tradytics runs in the phone's browser rather than as a native app, it has no trial on paid plans (the Free plan stands in), and its dark pool prints arrive within about 15 minutes of their report, with levels built from 10 sessions of prints.
